Dear Reader,
Hello again. This third book in the Poppy series finally introduces Poppy's special relationship with Rudy Rooster. Rudy represents a loving, strong caregiving figure — and while I've written him as a rooster, that role could be filled by any person, regardless of gender. What matters most is that Rudy is symbolic of a caregiver who is devoted not only to Poppy, but also to Momma Hen.
Rudy plays a vital role in Poppy's life. He's protective and safe, but just as importantly, he's consistent and available for his chick. He shows up — just as I hope you will show up for your little one.
While writing this book, I turned to my own Rudy Rooster — my husband of 36 years, Mike — and asked what he thought made a good parent. He told me he always said the same three words to our kids: "make good choices." But it was never about the words themselves — it was the years of showing up, caring, and loving that gave them meaning.
