Each adventure captures the small moments that shape childhood: discovering new experiences, understanding big emotions, building confidence, and learning the importance of kindness and connection. As Poppy journeys along, children see their own emotions and experiences reflected, reminding them that every challenge and achievement is an important part of becoming who they are meant to be.

About the Author

Dr. Kathy is a licensed psychologist dedicated to helping new parents raise happy, healthy, and securely attached children.

Her path to this work began early, growing up in Cupertino, California, and later in the small town of Jackson, California, before heading off to the University of California, Davis, where she earned her BA in Psychology in 1983. From there, she moved to Boulder, Colorado, spending four years at National Jewish Health teaching kids with asthma the art of belly breathing.

She went on to earn her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Denver, where she had the honor of being the last intern to train under the renowned Dr. Ruth Kempe at the Kempe National Child Abuse Center. There, she worked in the preschool program alongside children healing from profound trauma. She completed her doctoral training as a Psychology Intern at Denver Children's Hospital.

After earning her PsyD, Dr. Kathy settled in Steamboat Springs, Colorado — affectionately known as "the 'Boat" — where she has been in private practice since the early 1990s. It's a friendly mountain town, and a wonderful place to have raised her two children alongside her husband, Coach Mike.
